Fukuoka Directive Council (Fukuoka D.C.), with collaboration of Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory (Stadslab) is pleased to announce two Masters Classes to be held in April in Fukuoka, Japan. Fukuoka is re-positioning itself for the global economy of the 21st century. And Fukuoka needs the inputs from design professionals to revitalize the city, strengthen its global competitiveness. Two Masters Classes, ‘Waterfront’ and ‘City Center’ under the theme of Placemaking for the 21st Century is being offered at the same time, and be taught by designers from Stadslab and Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority.

– Saline Verhoeven, Landschaps Architect, Bureau B+B
– Andrew David Fassam, Director of Urban Planning and Design for Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority - Participants:
– Open to all design professionals – architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects (5 – 10 years experience, preferably in the field of urban planning and design)
– Numbers of participants: Estimated to be around 16-28 participants; experts from both domestic and overseas.
– Cost: With accommodation. JPY130,000. Without accommodation. JPY100,000
– Accommodation: Rooms in local economy hotels will be provided and are included in the cost (double-occupancy). If you are from the area or have friends, you can stay at home or with friends and pay a discounted rate.

About Master Class Program Fukuoka
Fukuoka D.C. is a multi-sectoral body with partnership across public, private, academic and civil sectors; a ‘think-and-do-tank’ which formulate feasible development strategies and implement operational projects, aim to reposition Fukuoka for the global economy. Master Class Fukuoka 2012 is part of a 2-year programme jointly organized by Stadslab and Fukuoka D.C. In the past, expert meeting in July 2011 has been held to define the strategic agenda based upon SWOT analysis of Fukuoka city, continue with a learning field trip to Europe (Amsterdam, Hamburg, Lyon) in Oct 2011.
